Backing it up with External Hard Drives

In the olden days when hard drives were counted in megabytes and the floppy disk was king, backing up a hard drive and transferring files between desktop computers bordered on insanity. Those days of ancient computer history are long gone. These days, when we want to back up a computer, maybe archive some important files, or simply want to transfer data from one computer to another, we have the external hard drive.

  1. Nice review of hardware capabilities. Follow this up with the topic I need (many other too?)-- the software that will do incremental updates of what is backed up, and hopefully on a self-sustaining schedule for cheap or better, for free.

  3. Good article.  I would like to see an overview of backup software for home or home-office use - i.e., works on one machine with no fancy setup, creates a bootable recovery CD for system restore, and doesn’t cost too much!  I use the discontinued Iomega Automatic Backup Pro, but I would prefer a supported program.  Any suggestions?

  5. For simpler backups, DVDs are the best, but they can stack up quick if you have lots of data. Windows home server seems like a great new way to store data as well.
