My playback on my computer sounds like everyone has inhaled a whole bunch of hielium. I thought it was my old speakers, so I bought new, and still have the same problem. It’s definately in the computer somewhere. Please HELP!!

I bought a pair of powered Altec-Lansing computer speakers and don’t exactly where they go.
The back of the computer has 3 holes to connect to--They are colored..One has a microphone logo:
One has a Green color and the other has a Blue color.
Don’t know what is In or Out..I have a DELL XPS-1330 which came a Vista. I have a shifted to a Windows XP and lost sound later. I have tried installing all the possible drivers but in vain...Plz help!
