You’ve seen them in offices, maybe even on your own boss’s desk. You’ve seen them at your gamer friend’s house on their cool gamers rig. You’ve may have even seen them when checking out at the local grocers. We’re talking about that cool desktop computer with dual lcd monitors, multiple monitor setup. How exactly does one set up a multiple monitor computer? Is it difficult? Is it expensive? Is it worth the effort?

  1. Good article, Thanks.

You wrote “Once you do go for more then a dual monitor setup, it will get trickier and more expensive to set up, but the basic principles remain the same.”
Pls. tell me exactly what to do to get my Desktop to handle three monitors after I install another video card.

  7. Here is an alternative to your recent article
    on two or more monitors.

    Graphics eXpansion Modules

Matrox DualHead2Go and triplehead2go are external multi-monitor upgrades for notebooks and desktop computers. Ideal for business and professional users looking to increase their productivity with a dual monitor setup, this small box lets you run different applications on each monitor or view one application across two monitors. DualHead2Go is available in analog and digital editions.

  11. The only, and big problems are:
1-Cost.  Decent video cards are $75 to $200.00.  Decent 19” to 21” LCD’s are $150 to $250 each.  Adding one of each could be in excess of $400.00.

2-Space. Adding another 19” or 21” monitor to an already crowded desk is a problem.
Most desks do not have enough elevated space for a second monitor.  Remember, the monitor needs to be at eye level for ergonomics reasons.

In my opinion, get a single 21” monitor and have multiple open windows.
    Just my $0.02 worth.

  19. I posted a question for ttblogger on 11/02, the person who wrote the piece on the fun of having two monitors. BUT received no answer. Who is this blog monitor?

  23. Hi and thank you everyone for your feedback.

    1) With modern operating systems (like Windows XP) all you need to do is add another video card.  It is automatically detected, and then you go into your display settings and make the 3rd monitor active. Windows XP can actually handle up to 10 monitors.  Additionally you can also purchase software specialized for multi-monitor usage.  My personal favorite is Ultramon.  Another good package to look at would be MaxiVista as it ingeniously allows you (through a network) to use panels on old laptops.

  25. OLED or organic light emitting diode, is a superior technology to rival high-definition TV displays because it uses materials similar to that used by fireflies to emit light, rather than depend on a back light. As a result, the picture is brighter, of higher contrast, and has better color than what’s seen on today’s LCD and plasma screens.
