Flash Memory Part I

Flash memory is available in so many formats that it can be difficult to know what will work with any particular device.  Devices such as MP3 players, PDAs, mobile phones, digital cameras, and personal computers can take advantage of flash memory to bolster their storage capacity, but selecting the right format may be easier said than done.

  1. Question:

Are there any portable MP3 players that can connect to and play straight from a separate USB Flash _Drive_, _without_ the presence of an additional SD/MMC card?
I mean, I was wondering if there was some kind of device I could attach to my existing Sandisk Flash Drives so as to play MP3s straight from the drives, without needing to buy any memory cards.

    Thanks,

  3. I’ve read the artical stating tat MMC do not have the write protection tab on the card itself.

But i’m having problem with my MMC

when i tried to copy some files,a window popped out say that it is write protected.

This card i’ve been using for quite some times and only til now i’m facing this problem.

I done a lot search on how to remove write protection, but 90% of the answer is to off the tab on the card (which a MMC dont have)

another solution is to remove password on the card with the phone i’m using.I did,but still it didnt help.

So i hope you could give me some help on what can i do, thank you

  7. I have Video camera that has a MMC in it for picture takeing along with the video tape but I have tried to purchase another card for more storage of pictures and the MMC cards are thin to begin wth and the cards I have purchased will not fit because they are too thick. What MMC cards are out there that I could use. I have a Panasonic PV-DV200D.It comes with a 8mb card in it and would like to at least put a 256 or 512 in it. What cards can I use?

  9. The 2GB size limit was not mentioned (2GB is generally “safe” except on “antique” weirdo cameras) At 4GB one can either buy “HC” cards which ONLY work in HC capable equipment.  There are also some weird 4GB cards that do not use the HC formatting and I have successfully used one of these in what turned out to be a “future proof” 3.2 megapixel 3x optical zoom Benq compact camera sold as 256MB maximum.  Allegedly 4GB non-HC is not an agreed standard so maybe I was lucky.  That little Benq certainly punches its weight and with the big card it can take enough photos for a world trip provided the batteries last.  If only everything I bought was as good!

  11. What’s the best chip to use in a Magellan Maestro GPS.  Will accept either SD or MMC.  Don’t need a great amount of storage space.  Thanks!
