Google Chrome - Future or Fad?
Do you need another browser on your desktop computer or laptop computer? Google thinks so. A few weeks ago, the Company released the first version of Chrome , what it describes as “a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier.”
I’m not sure about the faster, safer, and easier part but Chrome is a very interesting piece of software. And although it’s a beta (as most Google applications are), it’s quite usable. It won’t replace Firefox, Safari, Opera, or Internet Explorer – at least not yet – but Chrome does show more than just a little promise.

Good article on chrome. It will be interesting to see how it grows and evolves into the future. . .
here is another good article on chrome that deals with the implications it might have in the future.Smart Browsers, Beyond Google Chrome
Thanks and keep up the posts!
Great article. you’re the first one to really explain what the fuss is all about and make sense over all the hype. After reading your review, I’m going to give Chrome a shot.
Thankshow do i get google web site
Scott,
Great review! Very thorough!!
So far, this browser is the bomb! I have a site I go to lots - http://www.sendoutcards/clyde. It runs about 10 times faster on Chrome than IE/Firefox. The browser never seems to crash. It is so dang fast to open a new tab. Google hasn’t diluted their search engine since they began as a company. (Compare Microsoft/Yahoo - yikes!). I think this rocks and can’t wait to see it on the Android-based phones. Anyone know when Verizon will have first Android-based phones?

Relieving Technology Stress since 1997Though it is not “technically"(as opposed to politically)correct, Google Chrome is a refreshingly different format, and minus all the bells and whistles, if they can debug it, it should be kept that way. I will be an avid regular user of it, once they get the proper security flaws covered.
Could you define “Web Apps” ? Maybe with some examples.
Good article, thanks.@gordon - from Tech Tip 163:
“Chances are you use at least one Web-based application. Don’t be afraid to admit that applications like Gmail, Bloglines, Facebook, or Twitter are bookmarked in your Web browser and that you use them prism_IMseveral times a day”
Great article. My only beef with chrome is that it could use more plugins but those will come with time.
Echoing the sentiments of everyone above, great article! Chrome has potential. Great potential. It also has a great company with mountains of resources behind it. One thing I don’t understand is the change in position Google has taken. Previously, it endorsed Firefox. However, the web can support more than one quality open source browser. If Chrome adds Firefox’s Add-ons and release quality updates/upgrades, then it will potentially be a browser force to be recond with.
Though Chomre is looking nice ,I use it daily but there are privacy issues in chrome to me rate as high as Firefox.
under the staying safe para:
to browse in incognito mode
“To do it, just click on the Control the current page icon on the upper-right corner of the Chrome window, and then select New incognito window\”.i just want to inform that one has to click on customize & control google chrome icon but not on control page icon for the option incognito window.
kindly correct this, the article is great.
Why would I need another browser I can’t keep up with the two I have now. I use firefox mostly Internet explorer has to much junk on it to suit me.
