Grinding the (Google) Gears

Cloud computing. It’s a phrase that’s been on the lips of many computer users over the last year or so. Imagine being able to work or to access your files from anywhere there’s an Internet connection. And you don’t have to be at your own desktop computer or laptop computer, either.

The main problem with cloud computing, though, is that you’re not always online. You might be on an airplane or train without an Internet connection. You might be in a spot where a connection is spotty at best. So, what do you do?
Turn to Google Gears, that’s what.

  1. It took a long time to get computers onto desktops so that we had some control over our work activities. Now there is a movement to give the control BACK to the mothership? I think that I’ll keep my software and all of the software versions/setups/preferences/etc. within my computer, and go online for for the things that the “net” does best (i.e. mail, driver updates, shopping etc.)

  2. Google is fine - but recently they did a auto-update and it took away the auto fill function. I used the function allot & now nobody can use it. Now because of Google’s stupidity they won’t fix it & I feel this is not right. It is very wrong. If you know somebody at Google can you get this problem fixed.

  4. I think the biggest drawback to cloud computing may have just been solved. I never thought of Google gears that way.
