The performance of computer systems has been steadily increasing as faster processors, memory, and video cards are continuously being developed.  The one key component that is often neglected when looking at improving the performance of a computer system is the hard drive. Hard drive manufacturers have been constantly evolving the basic hard drive used in modern computer systems for the last 25 years, and the last few years have seen some exciting developments from faster spindle speeds, larger caches, better reliability, and increased data transmission speeds.

  1. I need to fit a old ATA drive in a new computer so that we can retrieve info off the disk. But the newer computers do not have ATA ribbon cables - what can one do? The only ribbon cables are to the CD/DVD drive - which I assume will not work?
    Thanks

  19. I am trying to figure out if there is a difference in formatting with SATA vs ATA.  I have a dual partition of XP, one is my mail, and one if for backup and play stuff.  But when partition 1 failed and trying to recover it, I had trouble seeing the different paritions in in XP install process.  It saw the entire section, but did not see the individual partitions.

So I am trying to figure out if I have to set the partitions up differently for my SATA, than I have done for my ATA, as I did them the same way, and my ATA does not behave the same way.

  21. Hey,

I am trying to help a friend get rid of some viruses but i can’t use Avira because pop ups keep popping up so I took the Hard Drive out and came with an another problem, her drive is a SATA Hard Drive and mine is an ATA hard drive, is there any way that i can make the SATA drive a slave and my ATA a master, or can even do that???

  27. Why don’t you tell use the real reason we’re fed this new crapware ! It’s CHEAPER to make than IDE and or SCSI. Otherwise we could use SCSI to get Faster transfers of data and a more reliable drive. Just More Smoke And Mirrors. CPU’s haveen’t gone Faster either. Just more Smoke & B.S. too ! Electric can only go so fast and the reache that point back in the 90’s. I am truley tiered of Smoke & B.S. Stop Lieing and tell the truth for once in your Life !!!!
