I was wondering why this tech-tip states, “I also want to mention that it is important to keep your hard drive on a separate IDE channel than your optical drive, and make your faster hard drive the master drive.” What (If any) are the drawbacks to having the dvd-drive and hard-drive connected through the same IDE port? My motherboard (ECS GeForce 6100sm) only has one IDE port, and my hard drive has a ATA connection on it. Why is it not recommended?

I am building a computer and CMOS does not detect the new Western Digital hard drive. I only have one hard drive in the computer. Do you have any suggestions?
