The Future of Computer Technology

In the past twenty years, there has been a dramatic increase in the processing speed of computers, network capacity and the speed of the internet. These advances have paved the way for the revolution of fields such as quantum physics, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology. These advances will have a profound effect on the way we live and work, the virtual reality we see in movies like the Matrix, may actually come true in the next decade or so.

  1. This article mentions all the good things that will come with nanotechnology and nanocomputers. How about our beloved freedom? Whoever will be in control will be able to be in total and complete control over our mind, memory, feelings, etc.
And why do we need artificial intelligence, again? Robots that can think, feel, and make decisions based on all these factors are no more mere robots, but living creatures. They may not be biological, but they are even more then that. These ‘Terminators’ will most likely develop the mind of their own and even faster then their creators scientists will be able to detect that “it is too late.” In other words, we create something that will be better then us humans in every aspect. Why do you think they will serve us? They won’t need us; they won’t need the nature either. Whatever the goal they will decide to follow, they will be following it destroying everything “useless.”

P.S. When it’s going to be enough for you? Eternal life? For what? What can a person do for a whole eternity? Oh, I know what it is. It is the never-ending pursuit of power – the curse of human kind.

  3. The other great thing about computing in the future.
    Microsoft won’t rule!!
We will essentially go back to the old mainframe client model and the standard home computer will consist of a $69.00 box that plugs into the internet and a monitor. You will access all your data etc on the internet, the only time you will have a “normal” computer is if you want to play 3d video games.
Microsoft will be a thing of the past because the unit that plugs into the internet doesn’t need a O/S as we know it. It is more of a portal to your virtual desktop.  Your applications etc are all accessed through the internet.

Just imagine a world free of the “Bill”.
    I’m looking forward to it.

    Chad.

  5. And as this type of technology comes into general use we will surrender what little privacy that we have left.

  6. Posted by Chad  on  11/28  at  02:33 PM
  7. You hit the nail on the head.
“What little privacy we had left”.

Unfortunately the reality of it now is that we do not as individuals have ANY privacy.

Your medical records shared with all and sundry.
(How you say? The insurance companies have FULL unfettered access to everything about you. Read what you sign at the doctors offices!)

Your credit information including cell phone log, credit card and banking information. All available to anyone that wants it.

Thanks to the criminals in charge of this fine country we now have the “Not so very Secret Police” prying into everything that they have no hope of ever understanding.  If the patriot act is thrown back to the depths of hell where it belows with it’s writers we might regain a portion of our lost privacy.

But my take is we won’t ever have privacy again.

    Chad.

  9. Pervasive computing using untold trillions of nanosensors will forever change computing as we know it… this is true. Just how it will change is up to us. Many of those “in control” like our politicians, world leaders, generals, religious heads, etc. are still clueless as to how existing technology works… much less how nanotech will come about and evolve through time. We have a unique opportunity right now as average citizens aboard “Spaceship Earth” to get a hold of the “Operating Manual” and read it for ourselves before others “in control” find the “Trimtabs and Portals” (the unique “levers and gizmos” which ultimately lead us to a clever/intelligent understanding of what is really happening from a global perspective.) In point of fact, it is really childs play to just ignore most of the politics and locate these Trimtabs which are analogous to the smaller rudders used on the back edges of the main rudders which steer large ships. Requiring less physical effort and thus less net force on the main rudder, I have used them on large sailboats to effortlessly control them in strong winds. If you have some insight into this yourself, I invite you to check out http://www.bfi.org for further inquiry. It’s both awesome and fun! As “ordinary Geeks”, we find ourselves in the extraordinary position of re-examining ourselves as educators of extraordinary people, curious about technology in general. Give them the best first impression of nanotech that you possibly can. Forward this Tips 104 to evreyone you know. There is also lots more technical info at http://www.foresight.org

  11. Is swinging an actual tennis racket for a virtual environment the best choice? In the interview, from Steve Jobs, talking about the post-PC market, he said: “They don’t want to drive with a joystick, they like the steering wheel.in some cases you have to augment what exists there and in some cases you can replace things. Perhaps in this case, the use of a small, plastic wand as a replacement for a racket is more ideal in an indoor environment. It certainly lowers the risk of breaking anything”

  35. Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently—they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.
