Three Great Alternatives to Acrobat Reader
f there’s one type of file that’s become commonplace, it’s the PDF (short for Portable Document Format). On the Web. In the workplace. And just about everywhere else. It’s rare that you don’t see files that have the extension .pdf.
The most popular piece of software for viewing and printing PDF files is Acrobat Reader from Adobe. But like much software out there, Acrobat Reader has gained a bit of flab over the years. The current Windows version weighs in at just over 25 MB, while the Mac OS and Linux version tip the scales at 41 MB and 43 MB.

I use cutepdf.
When you mention the size of the Mac version of Acrobat Reader you should mention that Mac users don’t need to have Acrobat because Preview, which comes with our OS does everything that Reader does and more.
Foxit PDF reader is a good alternative that is really small and quick and easy to install.
I love Foxit Reader; however, every once in a while (rarely) a web sites will have some sort of code to run Adobe Reader and consequently your .pdf file won’t load. Why should I have one of these in my hard drive when I already have adobe 8 professional with which I can write pdf, read pdf, or convert any text such as word to pdf or convert pdf to word or any other document reader. It is an alternative but I would need a reason to install it in an already crowded hard drive with 23 books and a jumble of other software.
I use Acrobat Reader Lite. It’s got a bit of bloat, but it is lighter than AR, and, frankly, I haven’t noticed a difference.
Dear Scott: AT 70, I am still a neophyte at the computing thing and I have considerably more skill than I think I have! I am very thankful for all your tech tips: they are really helpful. Feedback from me would be that even a relative newcomer to computing can get next to your writing and the tips you give.
