The Tablet PC cometh! In the last 24 months, we have seen a wave of major OEM manufacturers release tablet PCs along with the highly popular Apple iPad 2!These next-generation mobile devices have no doubt helped with our digital lifestyle but several questions should be considered from its arrival: Is it going to replace my notebook/desktop computer? Should I drop the cash just to stay up-to-date with technology? What can I do with a tablet pc?

  3. Read this on my iPad , so yes, I agree it can keep you up to date, share information and pictures.
I have a friend that only uses iPad, and has found it limiting.  For instance writing anything of length, like a resume.

It should include a quick email key to enter your email from memory.

I love theconvience and instant ON.

  5. I’ve got an i7 Desktop PC and an i5 laptop. The laptop takes forever to boot up. As soon as the ipad 3 comes out, I’m going for it. Lots of times I want to look up something in the bedroom (I spend a lot of time there) and to boot the laptop is annoying to say the least. An iPad will fill this need. I’ve never been a big fan of Apple, but I’m really starting to hate Windoze, especially Windoze 7. I’ve already decided that our next laptop will be a Mac.

  7. I use a Motorola Xoom and I fail to find as valid the criticism of it having an overly complicated OS. I found it very intuitive. I mean I was also an Android phone user; so I suppose that helped, but given the popularity of iPhones, is it any wonder that most users find the iPad intuitive. I think it is all in what respective users are already use to in the way of Smartphones when they jump into the tablet arena. If you’ve always used an iPhone and not a droid, you are going to think the iPad is way easier.

I will agree the Xoom had a rough start and it still has a long way to go relative to tablet apps, but it is strong performer and hardware wise is more capable than the iPad 2.

I do concur that the smartest thing anyone could is try them out before purchasing and make an informed decision.

  11. Just because Apple has a headstart in the tablet market, does not mean it has won… RIM and Nokia are perfect examples of this; both were on top of the game, and are now nearing the bottom.

Apple can easily be underswipped by cheaper Android tablets, or even the Windows Tablet… But to say that Apple wins, is making a fairly large assumption. They are winning though, yes.

And RIM is smart to concentrate on getting their QNX phones out, which could very much save the company. I just hope they up the hardware specs…

  13. Tablets are excellent “sit on the couch” and surf, or do little things on the net. When it comes to actual productivity, forget it.

It’s not that they lack the power to do it, or even some of the applications. It’s just the interface doesn’t lend itself to being that efficient. Even with voice recognition, and other efficiency aids.. tablets just can’t match the output capacity of a proper desktop. Anything more than responding to emails, sending things already completed, keeping in touch with other humans, and the tablet becomes ponderous to use.

    My opinion.

  31. I think it is depends on your requirements. And you need to identify your requirements. There are different user one is home user, second is official use and third one is personal use..The Tablet is the thing which is fast and easy to use.I saw many people use Tablet for their official use because most of the time they are mobile and they require such gadgets to do their official work. I made the conclusion is that it is completely on your requirement otherwise it is the waste of money on Tablet.white kitchen cabinets

  33. These things are all over. HP just had a huge sale on theirs for an unbelievable low price of about $100. I’m a college student and I see many people taking notes with these things everyday. I don’t have one but they seem easy to use and may consider getting one.

  41. I have had an ipad 2 for about four months now and cannot fault it in anyway. Most of the apps on the device flow so well. I had been looking to buy a tablet for a while, looking at some of the cheaper android devices, but at the end of the day, i think you always get what you pay for. As much people disliking Apple, you can never say they make bad products and nothing beats the ipad at the moment.

  45. I see tablets fading as laptops get slimmer and lighter.  Tablets are nice and do have their place, but their limitations hold me back until the cost comes down eventually.

  53. Getting the bugs out should be done before selling the product...but then no one would have anything cause the bugs are never always worked out.

  79. Depends what you need it for, the tablet can almost replace a computer. If you mainly check emails, browse Internet, etc. than a tablet will be the perfect solution for you.

  87. Hoping the Windows 8 tablet PCs catch on; tablets seem nice, but sometimes you need a proper computer to do work on.  Wouldn’t it be nice if we could sit under a shade tree and work in Illustrator or Photoshop?  Those stylus-only PCs don’t count in my book, guys.  It’ll be nice to have the multitouch AND stylus on the screen, in an affordable price range, with an interface designed for it.  Maybe Apple will wake up to the need for an iPad-factor Mac.  Oh, and since I tend to use Linux at home, it’ll be awesome to use GNOME 3 on a multitouch screen. wink
