These ultra thin laptops are great, but what is the real advantage to owning one. I understand they are smaller and light weight, but my laptop is full sized and very movable. I do like the look of these ultra thins but wouldn’t choose one on that premise alone.
My first complaint was that the Air had no optical drive. Since this has been fixed I see no reason to avoid ultra thins. The only factor in buying one is where to find them. I have yet to see any other than the Air on shelves.Nice article, informative and well written. It covered all the aspects, differences very well and who is best suited for. However, may I point out to you that you left the single most important part out of your article that determines whether to buy or not to buy irregardless of who the product is for? You left the problems associated with these products and their maintenance cost out of your presentation. The article says nothing to your audience that laptops in general have heat dissipation problems? Like the Heat sink Fan goes frequently making the Processor susceptible to failure? In a thin Notebook, this problem is exacerbated since most have Integrated Processors which means that if the Processor goes, you just bought yourselves a new ultra thin Notebook! Since they cost more according to your article, this would be an unacceptable solution for the average user. We sell and repair Laptops and those Ultra Thin Notebooks the article references. Most of the problems are Keyboard keys and Batteries. But the critical failures are burned Processors due to Fan failures. My suggestion is for the buyer to chat with a Laptop repair person and ask the maintenance questions especially about critical failures before buying. This is very important and needs to be mentioned in your article.
Thanks for posting this wonderful techtips. I must say that thin laptops and those extra-thin laptops are made for everyone’s convenience. I’m glad that you presented some of the choices but what’s important is that you are satisfied whether it’s laptop or notebook computer. Just make sure that you maintain it’s good performance all the time and you’re good to go. Cheers!

Yep.. it’s true. But also.. very important is to choose a right one for yourself.
If you need it just for online browsing and some light media use or document writing, then you can buy some netbook for cheap, like $200 or so.
But if you need something more serious, then consider to invest more than $600 in light weight laptop.
