Online Shopping and Cyber Monday
Why Consumers Prefer to Shop Online Rather Than in Stores During the Holidays
Cyber Monday is the online retail equivalent to Black Friday: a term used for the Monday after Thanksgiving when e-commerce traffic and sales increase. Retailers have found that many consumers, who were too busy to shop over the Thanksgiving weekend or did not find what they were looking for, head to the web on Monday from home or work to find bargains. Many online retailers see sales spikes on Cyber Monday but, like Black Friday, it is rarely the busiest online shopping day of the year. Though the phrase was created by NRF division Shop.org, the term was coined based on a clear consumer trend that retailers began to recognize.
